Teaching Your Children About the Dentist

I work as a clerical assistant in a pediatric dental office, and I am commonly surprised by the number of children who are scared of the dentist. Many kids think that cleanings will be painful, and they believe they will be scolded for eating sugary foods. Children are also extremely frightful of the noises made by the water spraying tools and the suction devices. As adults, we know that dental cleanings are easy and free of pain. We need to impart this knowledge to our children so they know not to fear the dentist. I have provided blogs that will help you speak with your child about dental care. Good communication, trips to your own dentist, and online videos can assist you. So will good brushing techniques that will make your child proud to see the dentist. Not Satisfied With Your Teeth? Consider These 3 Cosmetic Techniques

Alfred Kelley

If you're unsatisfied with the overall look of your teeth, know that there are things you can do to change it. Your dentist has several cosmetic dentistry treatments they can offer that can make a huge impact on your smile. Here are three of them that can do wonders for you.

Teeth Whitening

Brushing will help keep teeth clean, but it won't help alter the color. Stains that are caused by eating certain foods, oral care neglect, or smoking can cause stains that are very difficult to remove. Thankfully, teeth whitening procedures can help reverse some of the damage that has been caused.

There are two treatments that are commonly used for teeth whitening. One involves bleaching your teeth with a peroxide based solution, which is much stronger than the peroxide strips used in whitening treatments at the store. You'll be given trays that are to be worn at home with a special peroxide gel, and after a few weeks, you'll have whiter teeth. Another method involves putting a peroxide gel on your teeth in the office, but the ingredients are activated with a laser for instant results.

Dental Bonding

An alternative method to fix problems is to use dental bonding. The technique essentially covers the problems with a resin, which can cover flaws in the teeth, fill in gaps or chips, and even change the color. While you wouldn't use bonding to change the color of all your teeth, it can be used to fix one tooth that is darker than the others. Bonding is cheaper than having porcelain veneers installed, which makes it an attractive procedure to some people.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a great way to cover a tooth and hide all of the cosmetic problems with it. It also can give a weak tooth stability, which helps for physical damage that leaves a tooth cracked or chipped. Dental crowns can also be used to support a dental bridge to hide a missing tooth without resorting to a dental implant or partial denture. A single crown will cost more than using dental bonding, which makes it prohibitive to use crowns on multiple teeth when you're on a budget.

To find more information on other cosmetic dentistry procedures that can be used to fix your teeth, schedule a consultation with your dentist. They can walk you through your options, lets you know how much each procedure will cost, and offer a professional recommendation for your teeth.
